WHAT EXACTLY IS HAIR TRANPLANT SURGERY?

WHAT ARE TYPES OF HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY?

1. Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT): In this procedure, a strip of skin is taken from the patient’s own scalp and the hair is obtained by slicing thin strips from that portion and under a microscope extracting the hair follicle. The follicle is then transplanted where required. The scalp from where the strip is taken is closed with sutures. Hair subsequently grows in that region and that scar is not visible in the long run.

2. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): Specialized instruments are used to extract individual hair roots without making any long cuts in the scalp. Advancement in the These individual follicles are meticulously harvested and then transplanted to the recipient area.

WHAT ARE THE DONOR AREAS?

Most commonly hair from the back of your head (Occipital region) is taken. But if required beard and body hair can also be taken.

HOW IS THIS PROCEDURE CARRIED OUT?

FUT and FUE are all done under local anesthesia with minimal pain or discomfort. The procedure is carried in proper, sterile operation theatre setup with proper monitoring. The patient goes home the same day of the procedure with a head cover.

WHAT POSTOPERATIVE CARE DO I NEED TO TAKE?

Usually a rest for 2-3 days is advised. All instructions regarding medicines, home care, hair wash are to be followed.
